The 49th cohort of the Female Trekking Guide Training (FTGT), organized by Empowering Women of Nepal (EWN) in collaboration with 3 Sisters Adventure Trekking, has successfully concluded, marking another milestone in women’s empowerment and professional development in Nepal’s tourism sector.
Duration and Location
The month-long training was held at EWN Hall, Pokhara, and included classroom sessions, practical field exercises, cultural immersion, and hands-on trekking experiences.
Participants
This year, 21 enthusiastic women from diverse districts, including remote areas of Nepal, joined the program to enhance their skills, gain professional knowledge, and build confidence for a career as trekking guides.
Training Highlights:
- Skill Development: Participants received training in trekking, map reading, first aid, wilderness health & safety, rock climbing, and environmental conservation.
- Personal Growth: Workshops on leadership, communication, gender roles, human rights, and empowerment helped participants strengthen self-confidence, teamwork, and decision-making abilities.
- Field Experiences: The program included a tree plantation program at Ghopte Danda, cultural and religious site visits in Hemja and Bindabasini Temple, and a one-day trek to Pothana, allowing participants to apply their learnings in real field conditions.
- Cultural Celebrations: Participants celebrated Teej Festival through a fellowship program, embracing Nepal’s rich culture and traditions while fostering sisterhood and collaboration.
- English Language Classes: Daily sessions by international volunteers Ms. Nikki Tye and Ms. Lizzie Kempton improved participants’ communication skills, essential for interacting with tourists.
Recognition & Awards
During the closing ceremony at Pothana, participants showcased their knowledge through group presentations on environment, culture, flora and fauna, and map reading. Awards were presented by EWN co-founder Ms. Dicky Karki Chhetri, recognizing achievements in punctuality, performance, active participation, and presentation skills. Special mentions include:

Impact
The FTGT training has equipped participants with both technical expertise and personal empowerment, preparing them to confidently step into professional trekking guide roles. Beyond professional skills, participants have gained leadership abilities, independence, and the ability to contribute meaningfully to their families and communities.
